STUDIO

Its Just Blake is the studio of Blake Buttram, a self-taught artist based in the Bay Area. The practice moves between painting, drawing, and writing, organized around a recurring inquiry into the structures we bloom from.

The current body of work centers on IJBYOMI ("I Just Bloomed the Youth of My Imagination"), an ongoing painting series developed in collaboration with the artist's daughter, Yomi. The series began with a refusal: she was told she couldn't draw. The studio's signature symbol, a flower with a heart on one side and a petal on the other, was born from that moment, and has since become the maker's mark on every piece.

The work is interested in returning. In looking at something a second time and finding it altered. In the way prosperity emerges from adversity, and in the way the act of revisiting becomes its own form of growth. The studio operates on the belief that the only real competition is the boundaries one sets for oneself.

Its Just Blake is the studio's public face. Behind it is a longer-term commitment to creative education and community access in the Bay Area, beginning with the studio's work and extending outward over time.
